Most maternal and newborn deaths occur during and right after childbirth. Public health facilities are crucial for health services, especially those provided to mothers and children in rural India. Despite investments in facility infrastructure, there is scope to improve quality of services provided at these facilities.
“Aaradhya Jeevan” (meaning “precious life”)
previously known as NMFE (Nurse Mentoring and Facility Enhancement) — represents TAF’s supply-side efforts to improve the quality of care during childbirth. Through this initiative, TAF strengthens labour rooms by training nurses and facility teams, equipping centres with essential resources, and building their capacity to manage intrapartum complications effectively. System Strengthening for Safer Births
In districts where the program has matured, public facilities supported by TAF have doubled LaQshya certification rates compared to state averages. The initiative focuses on reducing preventable maternal and newborn deaths, enhancing delivery preparedness, and reinforcing supervision, teamwork, and adherence to clinical protocols across the health system.
